Federico Boni

Federico Boni is an Italian contemporary visual artist and multidisciplinary designer whose practice bridges painting, digital media and immersive visual experiences. Originally from Reggio Emilia, Italy, and now based in Australia, Federico draws on a background in graphic design, illustration and large-scale projection mapping to create works that blur the boundaries between the physical and the imagined.

Working across traditional and digital mediums, Federico has developed a distinctive visual language that combines surrealism, romantic nostalgia and bold graphic forms with sculptural three-dimensional elements. His compositions are playful yet meticulously constructed, inviting viewers into dreamlike worlds where familiar objects and memories are reimagined through colour, light and illusion.

Before dedicating his practice to contemporary art, Federico spent more than a decade working as a graphic designer and visual artist across Italy, collaborating with design studios, festivals and major live events as a visual mapping artist and creative director. This experience continues to inform his practice, bringing a cinematic sense of movement, depth and composition to every work.

Driven by an enduring fascination with colour, storytelling and innovation, Federico continually explores the relationship between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. His work reflects a belief that art should evoke curiosity, optimism and emotional connection, encouraging viewers to experience the familiar from an entirely new perspective.

My practice sits somewhere between painting, design and imagination. I am drawn to surrealism, romantic nostalgia and the quiet magic found in everyday objects and memories. Rather than recreating reality, I enjoy transforming it, building visual worlds that feel familiar yet impossible at the same time.

A defining element of my work is the dialogue between two-dimensional and three-dimensional space. I love introducing sculptural and illusionistic forms into my compositions because they create a sense of movement, depth and discovery. The contrast between flat graphic surfaces and dimensional elements allows each work to shift as the viewer moves around it, creating a more immersive experience.

My background in graphic design and large-scale projection mapping has taught me to think beyond the canvas. Whether working digitally or by hand, I approach every artwork with the same intention—to balance strong visual impact with thoughtful composition and emotional resonance. I embrace versatility, allowing each idea to determine its own process, materials and outcome rather than imposing a fixed style.

Above all, I want my work to inspire a sense of wonder. Through colour, form and unexpected perspectives, I hope to create moments that encourage curiosity, awaken childhood imagination and remind us that creativity has the power to transform even the most ordinary experiences into something extraordinary.
