Tim Fry

Tim Fry is an Australian contemporary artist whose practice spans ceramic sculpture and mixed media drawing, exploring the intersection of everyday life, architecture and popular culture. Based in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Tim transforms familiar objects, buildings and landscapes into bold visual narratives that are both playful and thought-provoking.

Drawing on the visual language of Pop Art, his work reimagines the ordinary through vibrant colour, expressive line and accessible imagery. Beneath this approachable aesthetic lies a deeper exploration of identity, place and contemporary life, with themes of politics, climate change, mental health and parenthood woven through personal stories and observations. His ceramic sculptures extend this dialogue through architectural and industrial forms, reflecting an enduring fascination with the built environment and its relationship to memory and community.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Southern Cross University and a Diploma of Visual Arts from Southbank TAFE. Since 2008, he has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions throughout Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and regional Australia, and his work is represented by a number of commercial and regional galleries.

A finalist in numerous national art prizes, including the Lyn McCrea Drawing Prize, the Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award and the Craft NSW Emerging Artist Prize, Tim continues to build a practice recognised for its distinctive visual language and ability to balance humour with meaningful social commentary. Through both drawing and sculpture, he invites audiences to celebrate the familiar while questioning the world around them.

Whether it's a bottle of tomato sauce, an old car, a suburban building or a familiar landscape, I'm drawn to the objects and places that quietly shape our lives. These ordinary subjects become a starting point for exploring much bigger ideas—identity, place, politics, climate change, mental health and the small moments that define who we are.

I work across mixed media drawing and ceramic sculpture, using each medium to investigate different aspects of the contemporary experience. My drawings embrace the bold colours, graphic language and accessibility of Pop Art, while my ceramic sculptures focus on architectural and industrial forms that speak to our relationship with the built environment.
